Lise de la Salle, Piano

24-year-old French pianist Lise de la Salle has emerged as one of the most acclaimed artists of her generation, praised for inspired performances of virtuosity and depth. The Washington Post wrote, "For much of the concert, the audience had to remember to breathe...the exhilaration didn't let up for a second until her hands came off the keyboard." Ms. de la Salle began playing piano at the age of four and gave her first concert at nine in a live broadcast on Radio-France.  At 13, she made her concerto debut with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in Avignon and her Paris recital debut at the Louvre before going on tour with the Orchestre National d’Ile de France. At 16, she came to international attention with her Bach/Liszt recording for Naive which was selected by Gramophone as "Recording of the Month."

In January 2013, Naïve celebrated the 10^th Anniversary of their collaboration with Lise in a “Portrait” release of highlights from her recordings, as well as a recital DVD. In this country, Ms. de la Salle has played with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival, San Francisco Symphony, and twice with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In her second appearance with the Minnesota Orchestra, she played the Gershwin Concerto in F, a performance that inspired the critic of the St. Paul’s Pioneer Press to exclaim that “she might just be the most exciting young artist in classical music right now.” During the past few seasons, Ms. de la Salle’s North American engagements have included recitals in New York, Montreal, San Francisco, Chicago, Vancouver, Quebec, Miami, St. Paul, at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival in Michigan, and Duke University. In April 2006, Ms. de la Salle made her Lincoln Center debut, performing Liszt’s Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s conducted by Keith Lockhart.  She has given recitals in Berlin, London and Paris, has made concerto appearances in Lisbon, Copenhagen, St. Petersburg and Lyon, and is equally renowned for her frequent performances in the Far East. The 2013-2014 season will include her Philadelphia Orchestra debut and her first appearance at Carnegie Hall as soloist with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

 

In May 2011, Naive issued her sixth recording – an all-Liszt album of the composer's original works, including the Ballade No. 2 in b minor, Funerailles, and the Dante Sonata as well as transcriptions including Lacrymosa after Mozart and Standchen after Schubert, in celebration of Liszt's Bicentennial. The album was named the "Diapason D'or" by Diapason Magazine, in addition to being "Editor's Choice" in Gramophone Magazine. As stated by Gramophone Magazine, "...the wonderfully gifted 22-year-old Lise de la Salle gives us a Liszt recital of astonishing strength, poetry, and, for one so young, musical maturity."
