Our orchestras are filled with many wonderful musicians hoping to be challenged and inspired by conductors
of musical depth and originality. Here are four distinctly different voices with just those rare gifts.

SIR SIMON RATTLE

Sir Simon Rattle’s uncompromising commitment to every collaboration he undertakes, to new music and to education have made him a model of what a 21st Century maestro can and should do. This summer, be it Fidelio with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at Glyndebourne, his concerts at the Salzburg Festival, his Vienna Philharmonic performances at the Lucerne Festival or his Gurrelieder with the Berlin Philharmonic in September (also for EMI), you know they will all bear his very special stamp. We get to hear him over here in March with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Read more...

JUNICHI HIROKAMI

A member of the Israel Philharmonic summed it all up – "We love Junichi because, with his passion for music, he takes us on a wonderful trip to the heart of each piece and we have great fun on the way." The "charismatic" conductor has been called "a Japanese Leonard Bernstein" and the rapturous response to his recent Rachmaninoff # 2 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and his Tchaikovsky # 5 in Cincinnati had musicians and audience members agreeing: "some of the best performances of the work I’ve ever heard." Junichi Hirokami’s musicality and infectious podium manner make him a favorite around the world, including a recent invitation from the La Scala Orchestra. Read more...

JAIME LAREDO

Jaime Laredo’s appointment as Distinguished Artist and conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony’s new "Bach and Beyond" three week festival in June was an unqualified success (He is animated, intelligent and inspiring on the podium, and that combination resulted in exceptional playing by the CSO. –Cincinnati Enquirer). The musicians raved about the chance of working with Jaime, playing great chamber orchestra works in a wonderful hall at the Conservatory and large symphonic repertoire at Riverbend. It’s the kind of reaction that orchestras around the world have had for over thirty years to Jaime’s inspired conducting and music-making – a real treat for your musicians and audiences! PETER OUNDJIAN

There’s no question that Peter Oundjian is one of today’s most-talked-about conductors and his successes this summer, at Caramoor (where he is Artistic Director), at Aspen, in Detroit and at the Hollywood Bowl, showed why. The extraordinary chemistry between Peter, musicians and audience is why he became the instant choice for Music Director of Amsterdam’s Nieuw Sinfonietta, which he’s taken to a new level in the last three years, and why he’s become a regular favorite in Houston, St. Louis, St. Paul and Saarbrucken, among other orchestras. It’s a quality that Peter Pastreich witnessed when he heard Peter conduct the Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances in Phoenix and it’s why Welz Kauffman has invited him to conduct the Chicago Symphony at Ravinia next summer.
